Practical Methods For Mastery

As a preface to this section I would like to state the importance of working on the three levels simultaneously. These three levels are the spiritual, psychological and the physical level. All three must be mastered to attain true Self-realization. The spiritual includes meditation and prayer, unconditional love and practicing the presence of God. The psychological level deals with personal power, self love, attitude (Christ attitude versus ego attitude), balancing the four-body system, integrating the three minds, properly parenting your inner child and attitudinal healing. The physical level is service work, proper diet, mastery of sexuality, physical exercise, sunshine, fresh air and fellowship.

Of course there is much overlapping in these, but each level needs to be zeroed in on and mastered. You cannot fully solve psychological problems with mediation. You cannot achieve realization in your spiritual life by just reading. You cannot heal your physical body with the power of your mind only. Each level must be honored, respected and mastered in its own right. This is a golden key to attaining Self-realization.

Golden Key Number 268--Working With Your Dreams

This golden key, working with my dreams, has been absolutely essential to my spiritual evolution. My father and mother, being Jungian psychologists, gave me a tremendous background in working with my dreams as a child and adolescent. I follow my dreams very closely. Over time I have learned a language of symbols that is personal to me. Dreams have provided me with valuable information on many levels. I am constantly making adjustments in my life based on information that I obtain in my dreams.

Write down your dreams every morning and work with them. In my book Soul Psychology, I have written a chapter on dreams which you might find useful; and of course there are many wonderful books on dreams. The key is learning the symbols that are personal to you. My I Am Presence works very closely with me, using the symbols that I have come to understand. Working with my dreams in this way helps me to stay integrated and balanced. Take the time to work with your dreams, for they will provide you with an invaluable source of information.

Golden Key Number 269--Hypnosis

The next golden key in my life has been the study and practice of hypnosis, including self hypnosis. This has given me a great understanding of the subconscious mind both theoretically and experientially. When used from a spiritual perspective, hypnosis can be of great value for yourself and for helping others. There is a very fine line between hypnosis and meditation. Both are altered states of consciousness, but hypnosis is focused on the subconscious mind and meditation is focused on the superconsicous mind. Hypnosis is a wonderful tool for accelerating the process of reprogramming the subconscious mind.

Golden Key Number 270-- Letters To God

This golden key, which has been absolutely instrumental in my life, is what I call letters to God. Whenever things were bothering me or were out of balance in my life, I would sit down at my typewriter and type a letter to God and my own Mighty I Am Presence. I have written hundreds of these letters. It is a tool that has helped me to develop clarity, channeling abilities and overall spiritual attunement. It is a type of journal writing with a complete spiritual attunement and focus.

God always would respond to me--through my writing and typing, telepathy, intuition, dreams, meditation, other people and life experience. In essence I was operating my own personal God correspondence course. I also found my “Dear God letters” to be quite an effective form of prayer. You also may write letters to the ascended masters if you wish.

Golden Key Number 271--Working With The Inner Child

The next golden key has been my work with the inner child. It is crucial to learn how to parent the inner child properly. It is possible to be a high level initiate and still need considerable work in parenting the inner child. The foundation of all spiritual work is to be right with oneself, which includes being right with the inner child, right with subconscious mind, right with the four-body system and right with the ego.

The Golden Key Number 272--Positive Self-Talk

The next golden key is what I call positive self-talk. Our subconscious mind is always talking to us. For masses of humanity, this talk is of a negative nature. One of the keys to reversing this is to talk with yourself in an informal manner. This helps to reprogram the mind and cultivate the habit of positive self-talk. This can be done with affirmations, decrees, talking in front of a mirror, tapes, positive reminders posted around your house, self hypnosis or through this more informal type of self talk. Talking to yourself has gotten a bad rap. But when self-talk is used consciously, it can be a very powerful tool for transformation.

Golden Key Number 273--Voice Dialogue

The next key has been the use of a psychological tool called “voice dialogue.” My father has done some wonderful work in this area, and he taught me this method when I was a young adult. It is a marvelous tool for working with yourself and others. It can be done in a journal, in chairs or even in your mind. I have used this process to get clear with the psychodynamics going on within my consciousness. I also used it for many years in my counseling practice. In your journal, or in chairs, dialogue with your inner child, inner parent, emotional body, mental body, physical body, spiritual body, higher self, monad, negative ego or Christ mind. This will help to bring you great clarity and perspective and help to integrate your consciousness and clarify your psycho-epistemology.

My father, Harold Stone, has written many books on the subject which you can find in your local metaphysical bookstore if you are interested in his work. Voice dialogue is a more refined version of the role play work that was first used so extensively by Fritz Perls in the Gestalt Therapy movement.

Golden Key Number 274--Making Appropriate Attitudinal Adjustments

The next golden key has been the whole concept of making attitudinal adjustments. There is really no such thing as a perfect state of consciousness that never changes. The true perfect state of consciousness is one that listens to inner guidance and makes the appropriate adjustments in consciousness as needed. When the negative ego raises its ugly head, the healthy conscious mind goes into action with its personal power and stops it.

Upon waking in the morning from dreaming, adjustments can be made according to guidance received. As the physical body speaks to you during the day adjustments are made according to its needs. The same applies to the emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. Life is like driving a car. Even when you are driving straight on a highway there still are slight adjustments that constantly need to be made. There is a state of centeredness that we seek to maintain. However there is always a flow and slight pendulum swing that occurs as we seek to maintain balance between the feminine and masculine energies and the heavenly and earthly energies. I call these attitudinal adjustments which can be likened to chiropractic adjustments which keep the spine centered and straight.

Golden Key Number 275--Giving Up Arguing

The next golden key is to give up arguing completely. It is fine to share opinions in a loving way, but if the discussion starts to become an argument I will back down, remain silent and not get involved in needing to be right. Give up all self-righteousness and state everything you believe as your personal opinion. Allow every person to have his or her personal opinions and values, even if you totally disagree with the person.

Golden Key Number 276--Giving Up A Belief In Failure

On the subject of giving things up, I also recommend giving up the word, “failure,”--for, in reality, it does not exist. The concept of failure stems from a belief in judgment. There are no failures. There are only lessons, mistakes, insights and opportunities to grow. Even the ascended masters make mistakes. Perfection does not mean never making a mistake; it means not making conscious mistakes. Whenever you make a mistake, forgive yourself, integrate the learning from the situation, release all guilt and move forward. Don’t make a big deal out of it. It’s just grist for the mill, as Ram Dass said.

Golden Key Number 277--Fake It Till You Make It

The next key was something that I developed early on in my spiritual path which I call the “willful method of spiritual growth.” At earlier stages of my life I was battling my negative ego much more than I am now, and I knew it was not right to be in ego battles. So I would often use this more willful method, or “fake it till I make it” method. For instance, if my negative ego was feeling super angry and wanted to hold a grudge, I would force myself to do just the opposite; and over time I would find that I would soon actually feel the way I had forced myself to feel.

In my life now I have much more control of the negative ego, and I usually can attitudinally heal and work things out quickly in my mind. In an absolute emergency I write in my journal. I recognize instantly that what I am experiencing all is occurring in my mind and emotions--that there is nothing outside of myself causing this separation consciousness. If there is one thing to strive for above all else it is never to create separation between myself, my brothers and sisters and God. Of course, in truth, we all are God.
