The Sleeping Prophet: Edgar Cayce!

By Dr Joshua David Stone

"Why worry when you can pray"’ The Universal Mind as Channeled Through Edgar Cayce

In my books I have made reference to the profound channelings of Edgar Cayce many times. I thought it would only be appropriate to share with you a little bit about his life and how he developed his most amazing abilities.

The real beginning of his abilities really began in his past life as the great prophet and priest of Egypt, Ra-Ta. Edgar Cayce was so gifted in that lifetime, and built up such good karma, that he carried much of it over into his life as Edgar Cayce. As a young child he was different from most kids. He was very interested in the Bible and very much enjoyed going to church. At the age of seven or eight he reported a clairvoyant experience that greatly affected his life.

He was reading in the Bible the "vision of Manoah", for he loved the story of Samson. All of a sudden he heard a humming sound, and a bright light filled the nature area in which he was sitting. As he looked up he saw a figure in white, bright as the noon day light, who said, "Your prayers have been heard. What would you ask of me that I may give it to you?"

The young Edgar Cayce said, "Just that I may be helpful to others, especially to children who are ill, and that I may love my fellow man." The figure nodded and disappeared.

The next day Edgar Cayce, thinking of the vision, had bungled his class work. He was made to stay after class and write the word cabin five hundred times on the blackboard, as a punishment for misspelling it. Later that night his tutor was angry with him for not knowing his lessons. Edgar heard a voice inside his head that told him to "sleep, and we may help you".

Edgar asked to take a short break and laid down on his bed, and was guided to put his school book under his pillow as he slept. He took a short cat nap and woke up and had total memory and recall of everything in the spelling book. As Edgar Cayce grew older and into adulthood his clairvoyance developed. He constantly saw fields of lights and color and people’s auras. One time he saw a woman who had no aura, and she was dead two days later.

He liked to play cards, and once without even glancing at the deck of cards he read off all 52 cards in succession to demonstrate that bridge would be a bore. Every year of his entire life he read the Bible from cover to cover. Edgar Cayce was not a scholar. He dropped out of school at fifteen which educated to the sixth grade, because of an inability to focus his mind.

The actual beginning of his channeling the Universal Mind began at a young age when he lost his voice for a very long period of time. He had gone to doctors but they could not find out what was wrong. A man by the name of Al Layne was in town who was a professional hypnotist.

To make a long story short, Edgar Cayce agreed to be hypnotized and once he went under, Al Layne asked his unconscious mind what was wrong with his throat. Immediately the Universal Mind spoke through Edgar Cayce’s vocal chords and said that there was a partial paralysis of Edgar Cayce’s vocal chords due to nerve strain.

It went on to recommend that a hypnotic suggestion be given to increase the blood flow to his throat and prophesied then his voice would be healed. Al Layne gave the suggestion and then Edgar Cayce’s throat began to become crimson red. Universal Mind then told Al Layne to suggest that the circulation return to normal. Edgar Cayce woke up shortly thereafter and was totally healed. This began the amazing saga of Edgar Cayce. Over the next forty years he did over 15,000 of the trance readings of the Universal mind. The first ten years he did only physical health problems. Many of them for children as he had requested to the Angel in his vision at the age of seven or eight.

After ten years people began to ask spiritual questions about the purpose of life, death, birth, God, and so on. Universal Mind gave a detailed understanding about the nature of reality of the unseen world. He spoke of reincarnation, world prophecy, future earth changes, dreams, Atlantis, Lemuria, past lives, how to cure incurable illnesses, holistic health, ESP, home and family, attitudes and emotions, astrology, the Mayan civilization, Egypt, the story of creation, the story of Jesus, the human aura, and much, much more.

All these 15,000 readings were recorded by his secretary, and are stored in the Edgar Cayce foundation. This foundation is called the "Association for Research and Enlightenment". There have been hundreds of books written about Edgar Cayce and his readings. He is considered the father of holistic health. Here was a man who, on a conscious level, was totally uneducated. He was a chain smoker, and in the early part of his adult life, didn’t even believe most of the information that came through him while he slept. Edgar Cayce may be the greatest channel of information that has ever lived on this planet.

On a conscious level he never studied medicine. Put him to sleep and he would astound doctors with his medical knowledge. Even more importantly, if people followed his often bizarre and strange home remedies they would invariably heal. This is why he was called "The Sleeping Prophet".

One medical authority said that, in his opinion, he perceived Edgar Cayce to be 100 years ahead of his time. Edgar Cayce, in the field of health and spiritual information, was much like Nikola Tesla in the field of science.

Edgar Cayce was a very humble man, religious and God fearing. He was guided by the Universal Mind to do only two readings a day. Otherwise it would have a deleterious affect on his physical body. Because of his love for people, however, during World War II he was doing seven or eight readings a day.

By this time he had become world famous. He was receiving hundreds of letters a day requesting readings. He would also never turn anyone away who couldn’t pay. His extremely selfless nature was his ultimate downfall in terms of his physical health. He passed away at the age of 68, however, his legacy has grown stronger and stronger with each passing year.
