False Gods, Idol Worship, Alternative Lovers, and Putting Everything on the Altar of God!

One of the most important lessons of life in becoming an enlightened being and integrated Spiritual Master is understanding the concept of letting go of all false gods, idol worship, alternative lovers, and putting everything on the altar of God! To be perfectly honest, there are very few people on Earth who are capable of doing this. Many think they are but they are not. This lesson is connected with the fourth initiation, which is that of renunciation and letting go of all attachments.

To understand this Spiritual test and lesson we must begin with the Story of Creation. In the beginning God loved what He had created. After Creation, however, something was missing. He wanted to share his joy of Creation. So out of Himself He created infinite numbers of sparks of Himself which were the Sons and Daughters of God. What was unique about our creation was that God gave us free choice. Now another way of understanding the Story of Creation is to say that we each are the bride of God, the soul being feminine in nature archetypically. For our wedding gift God gave us all of creation and material creation to enjoy. We each went out and began to explore and enjoy God’s wedding gift to us, however, what began to happen over time is that we became so enamored with the gift of creation and so over identified with it that we forgot about God and got lost in the gift. So in essence, we took on alternative lovers. Some of these alternative lovers were power, fame, greed, hedonism, sensuality, materialism, vanity even to the point of thinking we were a physical body instead of God living in a physical body and a bride to be.

Each one of these alternative lovers, false gods, and false idols in the end brought us suffering. For nothing can bring us true peace and happiness except our marriage with God. After trying out hundreds and even thousands of alternative lovers, false gods, and false idols, and suffering greatly we finally began to remember God, our true marriage partner. So we gave up all these adulterous lovers and began to put all our focus and attention back to God. God already knew we would come back to Him and has been preparing the wedding feast. However, before the wedding can take place we had to give birth to a child, that is the Spiritual/Christ/Buddha/God Child. This of course is symbolic of giving birth to this principle and ideal within yourself. Before the wedding banquet can take place we must raise this Spiritual/Christ/Buddha/God Child into maturity within us. This is the path of initiation and ascension or the path of Self and God Realization. Then we will ascend back into Heaven as Elijah did, as Jesus did, and all the great Masters did! We will be welcomed home like the Prodigal Son or in this metaphor as the bride to be! This cannot be done, however, until all false gods, idol worship, and alternative lovers are released and let go of. When we do this we move from being the adulterous lover as Mary Magdalene was at first, to being the Virgin Mary. We all become the Virgin Mary when we let go of all adulterous lovers. I want to add here that the term alternative lovers was coined by Paul Solomon and want to give him credit for that.

Another way of saying this is that everything must be placed on the altar of God! When I say everything, I mean everything! That includes children, romantic relationships, friends, and everything! Whatever you put first in life is your God and that is whom you worship!

So here is a beginning list of some of the false gods, false idols, and alternative lovers you must put on the altar of God:
